The Nevada County Seat Challenge is a continuation of the quest for folks to do a sanctioned volkssport event in each county in the US. The Saguaro Sun Striders, AVA-0913, is pleased to present Nevada in all its small town glory. Nevada has 16 counties. We have created a Year-Round Event in each county seat town except Las Vegas and Reno, as there are already YREs in place.
Nevada became the 36th state of the union on October 31, 1864. Nevada is located in a mountainous region that includes vast semiarid grasslands and sandy alkali deserts. It is the most arid state of the country. The state takes its name from the Spanish nevada (“snow-clad”), a reference to the high mountain scenery of the Sierra Nevada. Nevada is officially known as the "Silver State" because of the importance of silver to its history and economy. It is also known as the "Battle Born State" because it achieved statehood during the Civil War.
When doing these events, you must remember that most of them are really small towns. You will need to plan for bathrooms. Some of the towns don't even have a gas station. Heck, some don't even have a town hall!! All but one of the towns are over 3,500 feet above mean sea level so altitude can become an issue. Bring your own water. Use sunscreen liberally.
