Pershing County, the county seat is Lovelock, NV and was founded in 1919, formed from Humboldt County.

The town's foundation came about with the building of the Central Pacific Railroad through the area in August 1868. George Lovelock provided 85 acres (34 ha) for the site, so the depot was therefore named "Lovelock's" after him and appears as such on old maps.
County named for John Joseph (Black Jack) Pershing (1860–1948), the World War I general.

Lovelock is just over one square mile in size, which includes includes three public parks, a skateboard park, a community swimming pool, a hospital, elementary, middle and high schools, a public library, a community center and many other businesses ranging from feed stores to casinos.

By request, the route was modified in early 2024 to include the sign "Two Stiffs Selling Gas" at Cornell Ave and 11th St. This sign is documented at the Library of Congress with Control Number 2017704316. You are welcome, Marietta!

This event is one of 16 for the Nevada County Seat Challenge. This event is a relatively flat 5K/10K event. Event elevation is 3,980 ft AMSL. Please use sunscreen and bring water. Walk starts at the county bldg; 400 Main St; Lovelock, NV. Parking in the lot on the north side. GPS: 40.17167613893422, -119.21504887440736. Restrooms not available, please stop on the way. There are two 5K loops. You may do either or both.

These are small towns in Nevada, and the sidewalks may be few and far between. Please walk where you feel safe to do so, and be aware the town folks probably do not expect to see someone walking on the side of the road.

The Saguaro Sun Striders promote the health, physical fitness and well-being of the people of the United States by organizing, promoting, and conducting scheduled programs of non-competitive, family-oriented participatory lifetime sports that encourage lifelong fun, fitness and friendship for all ages and abilities.

"Volksmarching" (non-competitive walking) is the most common type of event and usually consists of a marked or guided 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) route. Each participant is encouraged to walk at a pace that is comfortable and enjoyable. Volksmarch is a German term, literally meaning “a people's walk”. Our walks have been chosen for their natural beauty, scenic interest, historical value and safety. The trails are well marked or maps are provided.
