You can start at different locations, depending upon your druthers. The trailhead on Chapel Rd has 10 parking spaces, so earlier is better. The hike to the Chapel is a rather long 10% grade with lots and lots of vehicle traffic. From here, the Mystic Trail is downhill, so when you turn around it is uphill all the way back.

If you start at the neighborhood trailhead (take Pine Dr off AZ-179, first RIGHT on Pine Knolls Dr. Park in the cul-de-sac, please do not block any driveways), the Mystic Trail is uphill, then turn around and come back down.
