History
The Colorado Springs Walking Club was formed many years ago by Lynette Reagan. Lynette was a huge advocate for the AVA, and was an extraordinary volunteer throughout Colorado Springs. She passed away unexpectedly in 2018 while serving as the Rocky Mountain Region Deputy Director. Here is her abbreviated story.
During the 1990's, Lynette lived in Maryland and was very active with the volkssport clubs there, providing support wherever needed, publishing the regional directory, serving on the Baltimore Convention Committee in 1991 as the facilities chair. Her volkssport activities continued on the east coast until she retired to Colorado in the early 2000's, where she immediately formed the Colorado Springs Walking Club, AVA-0904. Manning the helm until the day she died, the club hosted two Year-Round Events and multiple Traditional Events each year. Many times during her tenure she was asked to participate on national committees, and each time she agreed. At the time of her death she was the Rocky Mountain Deputy Regional Director, and active on national committees, including the AVA Programs Committee, and she recently was a featured member by the Membership Committee. During the previous NEC she served on the Strategic Planning Committee helping to shape the future direction of the AVA. In 2017 she was a third of the Billings Convention Committee, and without her leadership, energy, enthusiasm and willingness to get it done the convention success would have been in doubt. She projected her enthusiasm for the AVA into the community as well where she volunteered at a local theater and at her church. She was working directly with a local elementary school to get the children walking, and with the local YMCA. She always remained positive and was able to solve every problem she was presented with. Whenever work needed to be done, and no matter whether the task was large or small, she was either doing it or recruiting someone else to lend a hand. Her tireless example of volunteerism has inspired us all. She would strive to help others achieve the success of the whole group - even if it meant she had to relinquish her own goals to satisfy that success. The American Volkssports Association, regional walking clubs, and walking enthusiasts around the world will greatly miss Lynette, and we all recognize the accomplishments she achieved in her life and dedication to walking.
