Dogs permitted on leash on 5K, not allowed on 11K due to proximity of livestock. Walk includes historic downtown Buffalo, passes the outdoor pool (free to all), Jim Gatchell Museum, then meanders along scenic Clear Creek with the Big Horn Mountains in the background. Halfway on the 11K route is the Veterans Home of Wyoming, the previous site of Fort McKinney. Elevation of Buffalo is 4650 feet.
After registering, you must drive short distance to the trail start. Directions are in the walk box. Offers a natural surface scenic walk through mostly forested areas along Clear Creek and the opportunity to picnic in comfort. Picnic tables and restroom facilities are available midway through the hike. The elevation in Buffalo is 4650 feet.
Walk past historic buildings on Main Street. You will also be on the walk/bike path along Little Goose Creek. See the live Buffalo and Elk at Kendrick Park. Elevation 3740 feet. OSB only.
After registering, you must drive a short distance to the start at Heritage Park. Directions are in the walk box. Experience the western plains as they used to be while enjoying a panoramic view of the nearby Bighorn Mountains and crossing the historic Bozeman Trail. The 12k route includes Willow Grove Cemetery which highlights the history and gravestones of the 1800s. Bathrooms are available only at the Super 8. Buffalo's elevation is 4650 feet.
Over colorful terraces along the Big Horn River at Thermopolis flows water from mineral hot springs. More than 8,000 gallons flow over the terrace every 24 hours at a constant temperature of 128 degrees Fahrenheit. The park has a free bath house where the water is maintained at 104 degrees for therapeutic bathing. Elevation is 4363. OSB only.
Sinks Canyon is a rugged canyon at the base of the southern Wind River Mountains in Wyoming. Located on the eastern slope of the mountains, the canyon is named for a unique geologic formation, The Sinks, where the river vanishes underground near the mouth of the canyon. Elevation is 6122. OSB only.
