Find Your Domain

To give yourself an Internet identity, you need a domain name. Typically, this will be the name of your club as all one word, with .org as the top level. For example, the domain name for us is AVAClubs.org, and because we purchased the name we are given a unique identity on the internet.

A Domain name costs you about $20 per year. You can buy it for a year, or for multiple years. There are many places that sell them. I prefer GoDaddy. To find out if your domain name is available, go over to GoDaddy and see. Just close that tab to come back here.

There is no requirement for you to purchase a domain name. By hosting your club's web site with us, you are a branch off our domain. For example, if you are the Havana City Wanderers, we would set you up as http://AVAClubs.org/HCW, and that costs you nothing extra.

AVAClubs.org got its start when AVA headquarters decided to stop hosting club web sites. It started with pay as you go, but in the intervening years has become supported by donations.

Two Ways to Do It

Your Way or My Way

Here's the deal. If you have a way to build a web site on your computer, you can do that. Once you have it built the way you want it, you use the File Transfer Program to put it up into your location on my platform. You are in complete control. I do not touch anything. My site is simply a place where your web site sits and where everyone can see it.

Or I maintain your site with the information you email to me. You can include text, photos, brochures, anything associated that folks want to see, and I put it into your site for you.

And did I mention it is FREE to you? Of course, you or your club can donate to help defray the expenses I have of hosting, but that would be so you can deduct that donation from your taxes.

Our history

Back prior to 2010 or so, AVA Clubs were able to host their web site on an AVA server. They had to do all the work and get it uploaded and pay a fee to the AVA. Then someone got their panties in a wad and decided it might be a security issue, and booted everyone off.

Since I was already hosting my own web site, I sent out an email to the clubs and made my hosting site available to any club that wanted to for a small cost. I had a bunch sign up, both those that wanted to maintain their own, and those who wanted me to maintain the site for them.

I was working full time and traveling and decided it was not worth my effort to keep track of when everyone paid, so when the 'lease' expired, I simply kept doing what I was doing. Thus, today I accept donations but do not charge for the use of my hosting services. Good deal for everyone.

Web site technology has changed, so I am updating my site to provide templates with the latest features. Anyone can do a new site, or maintain their old one. Just contact me with the contact form and I'll be glad to get your site configured.
